What the success of our SS17 launch means for our girls and other young girls in Myanmar

Last Sunday at the beautiful 7 Phoenix street studio in South Yarra we launched our new Spring/Summer 17 collection to 200 generous and inspiring people. This launch focused on the goal of raising enough funds to replicate our You&Mei program in a new township in Myanmar to help more young girls escape the strains of poverty by spreading our story.

Today we want to share with you the incredible results of this launch and what it means for You&Mei and for more young girls in Myanmar!

The event saw 120 garments sold and an incredible $11,000 was raised!! 100% of these profits are going straight towards replicating the program in a new township of Myanmar, which borders the sex-trafficking district. With this money, we will be able to help 5-10 new girls into our program and provide them with:

  • Seamstress training
  • Weekly lessons in English, writing, maths, business, life skills, adolescent health and sexual education, disease prevention and financial planning
  • Health check-ups and nutritional support
  • Rice Deliveries- $50 feeds a family of 4 for up to a month
  • A safe and supportive working environment
  • The ability to hope and dream for their future

The feeling of the room last Sunday as Tanika shared the You&Mei story with 200 Melburnians was one of pure happiness, hope and compassion. The room was filled with inspiring people hoping to give their support to our cause. People like actress Jane Balder, the cast of Aladdin the Musical and Kinky boots, just to mention a few of the vast collection of theatre stars and influencers that made the effort to come support us on our big day! Every single person who attended genuinely cared about making a difference and shared our love and compassion for the girls in Myanmar and hope to provide them with a better future.

We could never have dreamed of the success of this launch and we are so grateful to every single person who attended or donated their time, services and skills to help the day run smoothly. The day was an absolute success and we cannot wait to get to work on opening up our new workshop and kick-starting the new program to get more girls in Myanmar off the streets and into working towards their newly bright futures as You&Mei girls!!!

100% of the profits made from garments sold goes straight towards helping create a brighter future for our girls. Please continue to help us make their dreams a reality by heading to https://www.youmeilabel.com/collections/summer-collection-2017_2018 and checking out their latest creations, as well as sharing the story... #youandmei
